The Dermatopathology Department at the Skin & Cancer Foundation, Australia provides a specialist clinical diagnostic service for patients with dermatological disorders and
cancers. The department strives to provide a high quality, patient focussed, diagnostic pathology service. Our specialised unit comprises a consultant-led team providing a comprehensive tissue-based diagnostic service dedicated to the handling of skin and related specimens. The department is recognised internationally for its expertise in the field of dermatology, and for its contribution to research and development in this specialism.
We provide the following services:
- Histological reporting of skin and related biopsies
- Special management of biopsies for the investigation of hair loss
- Histochemical stains, including stains for micro-organisms
- Immunoperoxidase stains
- Immunofluorescence studies; direct and indirect.
- Elisa assays for inflammatory diseases

The laboratory is operational 17 hours per day, excluding weekends. The office operates weekdays from 7am to 6pm to provide results, reports and other information services including urgent reporting of cases within 24 hours, as required.
The Foundation has a courier pickup service for specimen collection and may also deliver paper reports. Faxing or electronic file delivery of dermatopathology reports to referring doctors is also available.
