Professor Steven Kossard established a dermatopathology division for the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia and became the Foundation's specialist dermatopathologist. He runs a Professorial Review Clinic at Darlinghurst and has set up the first clinically based service dedicated to diseases and tumours of the skin.

In 2000, he established a Fellowship in Dermatopathology. The department is recognised as being an excellent specialist training facility. Steven has published over 200 articles in international dermatology journals and in other reputable publications. 

 

 


 

John_De_LauneyDr John De Launey
Dermatologist Consultant
Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia

Dr de Launey has a long association with the Skin & Cancer Foundation as a clinician and administrator. His principal interests are the surgical treatment of skin cancer, infectious disease and the treatment of severe acne. Dr de Launey is a keen educator and is involved in both College of Dermatologists registrar training and in up-skilling family practitioners, particularly in cutaneous surgery. He is usually away from the Foundationin the middle of the year when he is doing some work in isolated Pacific areas.

 


Dr Tanya Gimour Dermatologist Consultant
Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia  

In 1993 Tanya completed her MBBS with honours at the University of Tasmania. She then completed her intern and resident years at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital before embarking on a masters of Science in Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital. Her dermatology training was at Royal North Shore Hospital, Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge UK, Prince of Wales Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital. She completed her Fellowship from the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2001.

In 2003 Tanya undertook a Fellowship in Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. She worked for many years as a Dermatologist & Mohs’ Surgeon at Royal North Shore Hospital and currently is a Moh’s surgeon at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. Her special interest is in the surgical management of recurrent or difficult skin cancers.

 

 


Dr Monisha Gupta
Dermatologist Consultant

Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia 

Dr.Gupta completed her MBBS in 1988 and her Post-Graduate MD degree in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy in 1993, from Punjab University, Chandigarh, India.

She  worked as a consultant specialist and assistant professor in dermatology in a large teaching hospital in north India, for over ten years. She was actively involved both with clinical practice and teaching undergraduate and post graduate students.  

Having relocated to Australia in 2006, she  worked in Liverpool and Concord Hospitals, in Sydney, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, in 2008.
 
Her main areas of interest are in general dermatology, pigmentary skin disorders, cosmetic dermatology and infectious diseases in dermatology with special expertise in leprosy.
 
Teaching remains a passion with Monisha and is currently a conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of NSW.

Dr Joseph Krivanek
Dermatologist Consultant

Dr Joe Krivanek graduated from Sydney University in 1966, then worked as a general practitioner with his father in Blacktown until 1972 when he trained at St Vincent's Hospital as first clinical assistant, then registrar for dermatology. He achieved his Fellowship in 1977 and joined the Skin & Cancer Foundation that year.

For some years, Dr Krivanek was consultant at St Vincent's, Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Skin & Cancer Foundation for 25 years. Since 1978 he had an active and regular clinic at the Foundation. Initially with Dr Lewsbe Abbott doing cosmetic dermatology and since 1997 in non Moh's surgery which he still continues.

 

 


 

Dr Stephen Shumack (Medical Director)
Dermatologist Consultant

Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia

Dr Stephen Shumack OAM graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales in 1980. He spent his intern and resident years at Prince of Wales/Prince Henry Hospital and a year as a medical registrar in Canberra before commencing work as a dermatology registrar at St Vincent’s Hospital/Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia in Sydney. He was elected a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1991.

Since that time, he has practised dermatology in private practice in Sydney and is also a Visiting Medical Officer in dermatology/sexual health medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney and was previously the Head of Department of Dermatology at St George Hospital, Kogarah.

He has undertaken various research activities over the last 15 years, with particular reference to treatments of non-melanoma skin cancers and also image diagnosis and teledermatology. He has been the author or co-author for approximately 50 scientific papers and book chapters.

He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia, in the 2011 Australia Day Honours list, for services to dermatology and the community.

Dr Shumack is a Board member of the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia, the Australian Dermatology and Research Foundation (Epiderm), and has been a Board member (Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary) of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. He is currently the co editor of the Australasian Journal of Dermatology, a board member of the Australasian College of Phlebology, and the Darlinghurst Medical Director for the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia.

Dr Rob Paver is the Medical Director and a consultant dermatologist as well as the Program Director of the Mohs Surgery Fellowship at the Skin and Cancer Foundation Australia, Westmead. Rob has over 25 years experience as a dermatologist and is also a consultant dermatologist at Westmead Hospital.

Rob graduated in medicine in 1978(University of NSW), Dermatology in 1985(Sydney) and Mohs Surgery 1987 (San Francisco) and currently works in a private practice in Blacktown.

His main interests are in education and teaching in dermatology, dermatological surgery and skin cancer, family, bush walking and all types of sports. 


Associate Professor Pablo Fernández Peñas
Director of Research & Dermatologist Consultant

A/Prof. Pablo Fernández Peñas is the Director of Research and Teaching and a practising dermatologist at the Skin and Cancer Foundation Australia, Westmead, with over 16 years experience as a dermatologist.

Pablo graduated in Medicine in 1989 (Autonomous University, Madrid, Spain), and trained in Dermatology at the University Hospital La Princesa (Madrid, Spain) finalising in 1994. In 2000, he completed his PhD at the Autonomous University (Madrid, Spain). He was appointed Associate Professor in Dermatology at The University of Sydney and Senior Medical Practitioner at Westmead Hospital, and moved to Australia in 2007.

Although his PhD was on keratinocyte adhesion and motility, and he has worked in photobiology with melanocytes and dendritic cells, he is focusing in translational and clinical research in Dermatology. His main fields of interest are onco-hematology, basic photobiology, quality of life and information technologies. He is a passionate teacher and researcher.


Dr_HewittDr Daniel Hewitt

Dr Daniel Hewitt completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia.

 

While undertaking Physician training he commenced Dermatology Training. He completed this training programme in Western Australia and is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

After working in a private practice in Perth, Daniel has moved to Sydney as a Dermatology Consultant for the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. He is also a Dermatology consultant at Westmead Hospital.

His areas of special interest include the medical treatment of skin cancers, photodynamic therapy, ultraviolet therapy and inflammatory skin disease.

Daniel is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. He helps to arrange the teaching of medical students from the University of Sydney at Westmead Hospital, the University of Western Sydney students at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia.

 

He is a Supervisor of Training of the Dermatology Registrar trainees at the Foundation and at Westmead Hospital.

 


 

 

Dr Michelle Hunt
Dermatologist Consultant

Dr Michelle Hunt graduated in Medicine at the University of Sydney in 1989, and worked at Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals before successfully obtaining her Dermatology entrance exam in 1990. She was admitted to the degree of Master of Medicine at the University of Sydney in 1992 after undertaking research in skin cancer. Following this, Michelle worked at the Sydney Sexual Health Centre and in part time General Practice before commencing dermatology training, attaining Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1997.

In 1998 Michelle undertook a twelve month Fellowship in Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery and Laser Dermatology at the Skin & Cancer Foundation, Westmead, obtaining membership with the American College of Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery. She then worked for a number of years in the Western Sydney area and as a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In July 2006, Michelle co-founded Inner Sydney Dermatology (now her main practice). She is currently also an Emeritus Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Mohs’ Surgeon and Laser specialist at the Skin & Cancer Foundation, Westmead.

Michelle is widely regarded as one of Sydney’s leading laser and cosmetic Dermatologists. Her special interests are in cosmetic and laser dermatology, and the management of skin cancer. Michelle also plays an active role in the teaching of Dermatology trainees and GPs.


 

Dr Maria Jones Caballero

Dr Maria Jones Caballero graduated from the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain) and undertook her dermatology specialist training at the University Hospital La Princesa, Madrid. She has been practising dermatology since 1992, and became Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2008 when she moved from Spain.

She was awarded her PhD in Medicine by the Autonomous University of Madrid for her works in Quality of Life in Dermatology, and has been appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney.

 She runs a General Dermatology teaching clinic at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia, Westemead.

 Her interests include skin cancer, acne, female dermatoses, and the impact of skin conditions in the quality of life of patients.

Dr Adrian See
Dermatologist Consultant

Dr Adrian See graduated from Medicine from Sydney University in 1996, and worked at Wollongong and Westmead Hospital before successfully passing the Australasian College of Dermatology  entrance exam in 1999. He was then  a dermatology research fellow at St George Hospital carrying out clinical trials before undertaking  his dermatology specialist  training at  Royal Hospital Haslar (UK), Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and St Vincent's hospitals, and the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia.

Dr See undertook his post Graduate Fellowship in Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery and Laser Fellowship at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. He is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, and currently consults for the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia at Westmead  providing  Mohs’ micrographic surgery / laser surgery and general dermatology services. Dr See also has general dermatology practices in Kingswood, Castle Hill, and North Parramatta.


Dr Eleni Yiasemides
Dermatologist Consultant & Mohs Fellow
Skin & Cancer Foundation

Dr Eleni Yiasemides is a consultant dermatologist specialist and Mohs micrographic surgeon. She completed her medical degree at the University of New South Wales and then undertook research in the prevention of skin cancer at the University of Sydney, obtaining a Masters of Medicine post-graduate degree. She completed her dermatology specialist training at the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia. Following this, she has undertaken a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the Skin & Cancer Foundation. Dr Yiasemides is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and Consultant Mohs surgeon at the Skin & Cancer Foundation. Dr Yiasemides has special interests in skin cancer surgery, laser and cosmetic dermatology.
